How To Encode Audio Files

Click on Encode Audio Files in Nero StartSmart.
Click the Add button in the Encode Files window.

Browse for the audio files you want to encode and highlight them before you click the Open button.

Highlight all selected audio tracks in the Encode Files window.

Select the Output file format.

(1) Show full paths - Check this box to show the full paths of the imported audio files

(2) Filter Settings... - Select the required encoding quality and bitrate

(3) Browse... - Select a folder on your hard drive for saving the encoded audio tracks

Click the GO button to start the encoding process.

Select Nero Digital Audio as output file format and click the Settings button

For normal users:

Select a Preset in the drop-down menu.

For advanced users:

Refer to the Nero Digital manual for further details about Nero Digital Audio Filter settings.

Click the OK button to confirm your settings.

Select AIF / AIFF as output file format and click the Settings button.
Select the Frequency, Bitrate, and Channels.

Change these settings only if you are an advanced user

Click the OK button to confirm your settings.

Select mp3PRO as output file format and click the Settings button.



Click the Enable mp3PRO button to switch between mp3PRO and mp3.
Select the Bitrate and Encoding quality.

Constant bitrate:

The whole audio track will be encoded with the same bitrate - even if it is not required.

Variable bitrate:

The variable bitrate depends on the dynamics and frequency range of the data. The encoded bitrate is always as low as possible (without having a negative effect on the signal). The encoder increases or decreases the bitrate depending on the output signal.

Expert settings:

Refer to the Nero Express manual for further details about advanced settings.

Click the OK button to confirm your settings.


Select WMA as output file format and click the Settings button.


Select one of the Audio Profiles.


Click the OK button to confirm your settings.

Select PCM Wav as output file format and click the Settings button.

Select the Frequency, Bitrate, and Channels.

Change these settings only if you are an advanced user!


Click the OK button to confirm your settings.

Click the GO button to start the encoding process:

(1) Show full paths - Check this box to show the full paths of the imported audio files

(2) Filter Settings... - Select the required encoding quality and bitrate

(3) Browse... - Select a folder on your hard drive for saving the encoded audio tracks

Click the GO button to start the encoding process.

Follow the status of the encoding process in this window:
